Construction is going into a lull at the aeropuerto and cutbacks have been announced. Unfortunately, my project is coming to an end in the next few months, so I'm an easy choice.
I have 2 possibilities on the horizon.
One is with my old boss. It has lots of perks...laptop, treo, work from home, training, more $, etc. It's just that I wouldn't exactly be doing construction management, more like an analyst for real estate development. It could be awesome, but there is something that I can't put my finger on just yet that is bothering me about it.
I have also been recommended for a construction management position on an $11 billion project (by comparison, Dulles is around $4 billion). The client is looking for a no holds barred build. Top of the line everything, which is rare. It is slated to be the largest international airport in the world when completed.
OK, it's drawback is that it's in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Not that Abu Dhabi is in itself a drawback. It's a very clean, safe incredibly Western thinking for the Middle East city. The project has the potential of being quite the feather in my professional cap.
The biggest problem is that I would likely have to sign a multi-year contract. If I were single, this would not be such a big deal, but...I am not. It has the potential of delivering big bucks, so in the long run it could really help us out financially. I would also have to connect through London so I could get to visitmesomeCake.
We shall see how it plays out. I still don't have an offer letter in hand from either party and I have until July at Dulles.
News at 11.

I have wanted to get Lasik since I first heard about it, but I always thought my prescription was too bad or I couldn't because of my astigmatism.
Well, apparently her vision and astigmatism were way worse than mine and she got accepted sooooooo...
Hey...it was a free consultation!
So, yeah. I am an excellent candidate...nice thick corneas.
i just have to work up the guts to schedule the damn thing.

Yankees donate $1M to Virginia Tech
By Larry Fine
NEW YORK (Reuters) -
The New York Yankees donated $1 million on Wednesday to a fund to aid the healing process at Virginia Tech following the mass killings last month.
The Yankees will also play an exhibition game next year on or near the Blacksburg campus, the proceeds from which will be given to Virginia Tech, where a gunman murdered 32 people, mostly students, before killing himself.
Virginia Tech president Charles Steger accepted the donation at Yankee Stadium and threw out the first pitch at Wednesday's game against the Boston Red Sox.
"I want to thank the Yankees for this extraordinary generosity," Steger told reporters.
"This is the largest single donation that we've received. I don't believe any other sports organization has made a contribution. Some individual athletes have done so but nothing of this magnitude."
Yankees owner George Steinbrenner said in a statement: "The events that took place this spring in Virginia have deeply affected us all.
"But the Virginia Tech community has shown great spirit and resolve during this difficult time, and the New York Yankees are proud to join so many others in supporting the healing process."
The Virginia Tech "Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund" provides grief counseling, memorials and general assistance to victims and their families.

Interesting article.
I seem to be agreeing with the sentiment there.
Here's a guy…a friggin Repub...that I would have considered voting for at one time. As a matter of fact, I gave him my vote in the Repub Primary back in 2000. Now, he just comes off so completely out of touch.

WTF is going on over there?
Christ, it's all right there for them to find. Do we have to wait for an archaeologist from the 25th century to find these things?

The 40-year-old Schilling made his comments on WEEI-AM radio and confirmed them to The Associated Press.
The right-hander's contract with the Red Sox ends after the 2007 season, but he said he was in discussions for an extension. If Schilling, who acts as his own agent, can't work out a deal in Boston, he will pitch for another team - but not the New York Yankees.
